I say it was altered. There are a few spots where it looks like someone tried to blend in a couple of areas.

They obviously did the overlay then tried to cover it up by compressing the crap out of the image. I especially like the "Ring" effect on the eyes, obviously blurred out to show make them seem hollow. Aside from technical aberrations, the context of the image is silly. Why would the shoulders and head of a "ghost" appear but not the rest? Probably because the original image was just a profile shot. Why would the "ghost" be so small? Probably because the overlay image just fit better. The dark haired girl in the white gown/shirt is also an old motif. Google "ghost girl" and about 80% of the images will be in that style.

Yeah definitely edited, may not be exactly where the effect is but it shows the image has been modified. What filter are you using here Tkay?

I use different programs but on this one I used, the Clarify, in Paint Shop Pro.

Highly suspect. It has been altered based on the lack of EXIF data available and the overall size of the file. I wouldn't waste time with it unless we could get the ORIGINAL image with EXIF data included. (It is a jpg so the data was probably there at some time but was removed by processing.)
April 28, 2011 8:11:19 PM CDT
Bad thing is EXIF can be changed by different photo programs if one knows how to do it.
April 28, 2011 8:30:15 PM CDT
And thanks to Windows 7, EXIF can be modified to suit the photographer's needs. Don't think you used a flash on that picture even though the EXIF says you did? Just right click the image, go to properties, details, click on the flash field and choose from several flash options to suit what you think the EXIF property should be!

Thanks Tkay and Justin for that info. More reasons I won't trust any photo unless my happy self took it.

You can't edit everything, but you can edit the ISO and the flash along with the camera make and model. Looking at this in an EXIF viewer you would never be able to tell since the modified date on the EXIF is unchanged. The file mod date is in Windows but that's useless anyways. Of course there are EXIF editors out there in the wild for free download.

a friend posted the pic on fb and all her friends are oohing and awing over the creepyness - I took one look and laughed. I knew there was a logical explanation!
